Job Description

Title:           Licensed School Nurse

Qualifications: 1. A valid license to practice as a registered nurse from the Ohio Board of Nursing

2. A valid Ohio Department of Education Pupil Services license or registration

Reports to:                  Building Principal

Job goal:                   To provide the fullest possible educational opportunity for each student through the attainment of an optimum state of mental and physical well-being

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Assists school personnel in developing, administering and maintaining a school health program
2. Appraises the health status of pupils and school personnel, as requested
3. Assumes the responsibility for referral to the appropriate agency of students in need of medical care
4. Visits students’ homes to provide assistance on health matters
5. Advises on modification of the educational program to meet the health needs of individual students
6. Sees that immunizations are maintained according to standards of Ohio law
7. Cooperates with the public health department in the control of communicable diseases
8. Maintains first aid supplies and sees that procedures are being implemented
9. Provides individual or group health counseling
10. Advises personnel on health education
11. Communicates with community agencies regarding school health matters
12. Assists in implementing health and safety regulations
13. Supervises health aide and/or other individuals who dispense medication
14. Assist in training and supervision of any grant programs relating to health services
15. Coordinates screenings to ensure all students are screened on schedule, and as mandated by the State of Ohio
16. Develops, implements, evaluates and modifies student health plans, in cooperation with school personnel
17. Provides follow-up with staff and parents/guardians regarding screenings
18. Communicates with parents/guardians about immunizations
19. Trains staff members on health issues, policies and procedures
20. Serves on school and community committees as requested by the Building Principal
21. Other duties as assigned by the Building Principal

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
