Position Summary

Halifax County Schools is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Band Teacher to lead and grow a comprehensive instrumental music program. The ideal candidate will foster musicianship, discipline, teamwork, and school spirit through engaging instruction and performance opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver standards-aligned instrumental music instruction

• Direct concert band and/or symphonic band ensembles

• Organize and direct performances, concerts, and school events

• Prepare students for adjudications, festivals, and competitions

• Develop students’ technical skills, music literacy, and performance etiquette

• Maintain inventory and care of instruments and equipment

• Collaborate with colleagues and communicate with parents

• Participate in school duties, meetings, and professional development

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field

• Valid North Carolina Department of Public Instruction teaching license in Music (K–12)

• Strong instrumental performance background and conducting skills

• Ability to manage rehearsals and classroom behavior effectively

• Willingness to support after-school rehearsals and performances

Preferred

• Experience directing middle or high school band programs

• Experience with marching band, jazz band, or chamber ensembles

• Knowledge of NC music standards and adjudication processes
