Nature of Work:
Under limited supervision, performs a variety of supervisory and administrative tasks in monitoring and assisting with the programs for Support Services for Students, including School Nurses, Guidance Counselors, and Social Workers. This employee will provide leadership and direction for employees, evaluate and plan improvements for programs that support students through these service providers. This employee will work with Safe and Drug Free Schools, seeking support and services for areas of concern for student welfare, including programs to provide proactive solutions to bullying. This employee will work with outside agencies to provide needed support both to students in traditional school programs and to those served in any alternative learning programs. In conjunction with this, this employee will oversee long-term suspension appeals and work with families and students to address needs through this process. This employee will also serve as the homeless Liaison for Halifax County Schools.
Duties and Responsibilities:
·Provides direction, consultation and supervision to the following employees: School Nurses, School Social Workers, School Counselors, Student Success Coordinators, and School Resource Officers.
·Coordinates with Director of Exceptional Children’s Programs, School psychologists
·Facilitates meetings with school Nurses, School Social workers, School Counselors, Student Success Coordinators, and School Resource Officers
·Coordinates services with and serves on community/special interest groups committees
·Coordinates local scholarships
·Updates and disseminates policies related to areas of supervision
·Works with Testing and Accountability to complete any required state reports
·Plans, develops, and implements standards, policies, and procedures related to Student Success Program. Develops short and long range goals for the program, monitors progress, and makes recommendations for change
·Supervises and conducts personnel administration duties for staff, including hiring, assigning special duties, monitoring attendance and travel reports, and granting leave
·Responds to calls and correspondence regarding programs and services offered
·Assists in the preparation and maintenance of budgets for all program areas.
Safe and Drug-Free Schools:
·Coordinates a comprehensive security/school safety program
·Provides training and assistance to site-based administrators in matters of safety and security
·Advises and assists site-based administrators in matters involving criminal activities on school campuses
·Participates in the development and maintenance of a District level Crisis Response Plan
·Assists/advises in the development of crisis management/emergency response plans as part of each school’s safety plan
·Serves as a liaison with other agencies such as local and state Departments of Transportation, NC Department of Public Instruction, Center for Prevention of School Violence, and others to provide resources and information related to school safety
·Directs the District’s efforts to collect and compile the required annual school crime report to the NC Department of Public Instruction in an accurate and timely manner
·Provides periodic reports to the Superintendent and the School Board on matters pertaining to school safety
·Works with school safety committee and community safety initiatives
·Manages Safe and Drug Free Schools staff and programs.
