Job Description
Itinerant Teacher of the Visually Impaired
• Reports to: Assistant Special Education Director
• Provide educational services to visually impaired students in designated districts within the intermediate unit. The service will include evaluation and programming of visually impaired students at primary and secondary grade levels. The curriculum for educational services shall be based upon the individual needs of the students enrolled
• Collaborate with other professionals in the development of an individualized education program to meet the needs of the visually impaired child
• Develop and maintain a systematic scheduling procedure
• Request, maintain and distribute appropriate educational material to meet the needs of the visually impaired child as indicated on his/her individualized education program
• Provide appropriate support and information to the parents of visually impaired children
• Develop and maintain thorough on-going records and prescriptions for each individual school age child receiving educational services
• Knowledge of federal and state legislation as applicable to the Itinerant Vision Program
• Perform other educational duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or the Assistant to the Executive Director
