Job Title: English as a Second Language Teacher
Qualifications: Must have a Bachelor’s Degree and an active PA Teaching Certificate (Elementary Education and/or English 7-12 preferred) and an English as a Second Language (Program Specialist ESL) certificate. Excellent oral and written expression and excellent organizational skills is a must. Ability to coordinate with member district administrators, teachers, and support staff is needed. Must possess Act 34, 151, and 114 Pennsylvania clearances.

Type of Position: Part-Time / Hourly
Scope of Responsibility:
• Provide daily instruction to ELLs for the purpose of developing fluency in reading, writing, listening and speaking of the English language.
• Develop and present lesson plans that include language objectives for listening, speaking, reading, and writing as appropriate for the students’ English language proficiency levels
• Develop and present lesson plans that are aligned to the PA Common Core Standards for ELA, the PA English Language Proficiency Standards (PA ELPs), and the WIDA Can DO Descriptors.
• Assess student progress using the annual WIDA ACCESS 2.0 test, observations, and teacher created assessments.
• Justify and provide report card grades, when requested by districts, for English and/or Reading.
• Complete the necessary monitoring procedures for exited students.
• Complete and distribute program forms to the LIU ESL Coordinator, and students’ parent(s) or guardian(s).
• Communicate student progress and/or concerns to Parent(s) or Guardian(s).
• When necessary, use an interpreter to communicate in the native language of the parent(s) or guardian(s).
• Provide parents with written documents in the native or preferred language.
• Uphold the state and federal regulations in regards to ESL instruction.
