Job Description
Department: Special Education
Classification: Professional Staff
Qualifications: Special Education Teaching Certificate issued by the State of Pennsylvania.
Reports to: Assistant to the Executive Director of Student Services and/or designee
Job Goal: The main goal of a Special Education Teacher is to identify the individual needs of each child and create a healthy, inspiring and supportive learning environment.
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Provide the appropriate educational program geared to each student’s educational needs as determined by his present level of functioning.
2. Provide and implement an individual educational plan (IEP) for each student.
3. Act as a mentor for students assigned by administrator and follow all expectations as outlined in mentor handbook.
4. Provide support for assigned students through mentorship in the area of Career Literacy.
5. Develop and maintain an appropriate system of record keeping.
6. Work as a team member with supportive staff.
7. Develop and maintain a systematic scheduling procedure.
8. Assume responsibility for requesting and maintaining needed equipment and supplies relative to program needs.
9. Provide appropriate instruction support and information to parents in conference situations
10. Participate in re-evaluation of students and fulfill all responsibilities described in the Luzerne Intermediate Unit Handbook.
11. Participate in team activities for all transfer students.
12. Keep an accurate up-to-date lesion plan book and submit it to Luzerne Intermediate Unit special education supervisor for approval.
13. Abide by all rules and regulations as set down by the LIU regarding length of school day, attendance, dress code, signing in and out and attending faculty meetings and in-service programs.
14. All other duties as deemed appropriate
Terms of Employment:
Salary and benefits are in accordance with LIU18 Professional collective bargaining agreement.
