About Us:

The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce is committed to enhancing mathematics

achievement through a comprehensive statewide plan. The State Support Team Region 7 is seeking

a Regional Mathematics Specialist to support schools and districts in improving mathematics

instruction from preschool through grade 12.


Position Overview:

The Regional Mathematics Specialist will play a crucial role in implementing mathematics initiatives

aligned with Ohio's Plan for K-12 Mathematics. This position involves providing direct coaching,

technical assistance, and professional learning to identified schools, focusing on building capacity

within an integrated multi-tiered system of supports for mathematics.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Intensive Support for Districts and Schools (50%)

  • Deliver direct coaching aligned with Ohio’s Plan for K-12 Mathematics.
  • Conduct comprehensive needs analyses using data from various sources.
  • Facilitate collaborative problem-solving at all system levels.
  • Support the identification of professional learning needs and assist in the development of improvement plans.

2. Mathematics Coaching and Technical Assistance (25%)

  • Assist in the implementation of multi-tiered systems of support for mathematics instruction.
  • Facilitate online courses and professional learning series.
  • Provide targeted coaching for diverse student groups.

3. Networking and Community of Practice (5%)

  • Organize and facilitate regional mathematics networking opportunities.
  • Support problem-solving around common instructional challenges.

4. Support for Ohio’s Plan for K-12 Mathematics (7.5%)

  • Participate in the MathOhio Network and engage in collaborative models.
  • Lead discussions and collaborate with educational service centers.

5. Professional Development and Communication (10%)

  • Engage in ongoing professional development and training.
  • Communicate regional initiatives with the SST Director and colleagues.


Qualifications:

Required:

  • Valid Ohio teaching license.
  • 3-5 years of successful classroom teaching experience in mathematics (K-12).
  • Expertise in evidence-based instructional strategies and familiarity with Ohio's mathematics standards.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or a related field.
  • Experience in special education and with students experiencing mathematics difficulties.


Knowledge, Skills, and Dispositions:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of mathematics instruction and Ohio’s Learning Standards.
  • Proficiency in data-driven decision-making and instructional coaching practices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
