Job Summary
Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) who use meaningful activities to help children and youth participate in what they need and/or want to do in order to promote physical and mental health and well-being. Occupational therapy addresses the physical, cognitive, psychosocial and sensory components or performance. In schools, occupational therapy practitioners focus on academics, play and leisure, social participation, self-care skills (activities of daily living or adaptive skills), and transition/work skills. The OTA collaborates with school personnel to identify needs and provides instruction on environment analysis and modification with a goal of reducing barriers to participation.
Primary Duties
· Under the supervision of a licensed occupational therapist, the OTA screens, performs student reassessment, implements the treatment plan and performs intervention
· Under the supervision of a licensed occupational therapist, the OTA collaborates with the team to identify supports, modifications, and accommodations that are required to support student success
· Provides intervention that focuses on the following fundamentals:
o Conducting activity and environmental analysis and making recommendations to improve access, progress and participation in the school environment
o Reducing barriers that limit student participation within the school environment
o Providing assistive technology to support student success
o Supporting the needs of students with significant challenges, such as helping to determine methods for alternate educational assessment and learning
o Helping to plan relevant instructional activities for ongoing implementation in the classroom
o Preparing students for successful transition to post-high school employment or independent living
