Overview

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Substitute Custodian to join our facilities maintenance team. This role involves providing cleaning and custodial services across various school or facility locations on an as-needed basis. The ideal candidate will have experience in janitorial and custodial tasks, with a focus on maintaining clean, safe, and well-organized environments. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the cleanliness and safety of our community spaces while gaining valuable facilities maintenance skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform general cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and trash removal in classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and common areas.
• Maintain floors through buffing, polishing, and other floor care techniques to ensure a clean and safe surface.
• Use commercial cleaning equipment and supplies efficiently to uphold sanitation standards.
• Conduct minor maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, fixing fixtures, or reporting larger repairs needed.
• Assist with special cleaning projects including industrial cleaning or deep sanitation as required.
• Ensure all cleaning supplies are stocked and properly stored.
• Follow safety procedures and use personal protective equipment during all custodial activities.
• Support facilities maintenance efforts by assisting with painting or other light repair work when necessary.

Requirements

• Prior janitorial or custodial experience preferred, especially in commercial or industrial settings.
• Knowledge of floor care techniques including buffing and polishing.
• Experience with residential painting or general facilities maintenance is a plus.
• Ability to operate cleaning machinery and tools safely and effectively.
• Strong attention to detail with a commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while following established procedures.
• Flexibility to work on short notice as a substitute or replacement custodian when needed.
• Physical ability to perform cleaning tasks which may include lifting, bending, standing for extended periods, and climbing ladders if necessary.
