Title: ESL Teacher (English as a Second Language Teacher)
Locations: North Central Ohio ESC - Primarily Marion and Wyandot Counties
Reports to: Direct Supervisor
Scheduled Days: Full time, as per employment contract

Position Overview:
Under general direction, the ESL Teacher provides instructional and support services to English Learners (ELs) to promote language development and academic success. The ESL Teacher utilizes the Ohio English Language Proficiency Standards to design and implement effective instructional strategies that support students in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
Responsibilities include administering language proficiency assessments, developing and maintaining required EL plans and documentation, monitoring student progress, and providing ongoing communication with families and school staff. The ESL Teacher collaborates closely with classroom teachers to support access to the general education curriculum and ensure student success.
Main Responsibilities Include (but not limited to):
- Implement instruction aligned to the Ohio English Language Proficiency (ELP) Standards to support language development in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
- Plan and deliver evidence-based instructional strategies and activities that support English Learners’ academic success.
- Administer and coordinate language proficiency assessments (initial identification and annual testing, e.g., OELPS & OELPA).
- Develop, maintain, and monitor English Learner Plans (EL Plans) in compliance with state and federal requirements.
- Monitor and assess student progress regularly and provide progress reports as required.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records for all English Learners.
- Collaborate with classroom/content-area teachers to support access to the general education curriculum.
- Use student data to inform instruction and adjust supports to meet individual learning needs.
- Build positive relationships with students and families.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians and school staff regarding student progress and needs.
- Facilitate and document meetings with families and school personnel as needed.
- Utilize technology and web-based platforms (e.g., Google tools, ODEW systems, SameGoal, etc.) to support instruction and reporting.
- Participate in required trainings and maintain compliance with state, district, and NCOESC requirements.
- Support a collaborative school environment and contribute to student-centered problem-solving.
- Promote a safe and professional learning environment for all students.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Ohio teaching license
- Preferred: TESOL endorsement
- Prior teaching experience preferred
- Valid driver's license
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills; including strong interpersonal relationship skills including cultural sensitivity & competence
- Preferred experience with diverse populations
- Proficiency with use of technology hardware and basic software (i.e., Microsoft office), email, and office equipment (i.e., copier, fax, scanner, telephone, etc.). Proficiency with web-based applications (i.e., Google Docs, DEWs website, social media, etc.)
- Ability to preserve confidentiality of student information and records
- May require successful completion of communicable disease, child abuse, CPR, first aid, CPI and/or behavioral management training or other training as needed
Clearances Criminal justice fingerprint/background (FBI/BCI), and public health clearances.
